Developing Psychometry
Psychometry, per the Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary , is “the divination of facts concerning an object or its owner through contact with or proximity to the object.” It is the psychic ability to discern the facts, history and life record of objects through touching or holding them. Knowledge about the people and past events connected with the object may also be made known. All things, animate or inanimate, have an aura or energy field which surrounds them, and everything, including a room in a building or a place in the forest, will hold the vibrations of whatever transpired there. In working with psychometry, you may feel all that happened during the life of the person, object or thing because the vibrations are indelibly impressed upon the person or object.
Psychometry is connected with other phenomena, such as clairsentience and clairvoyance. Some psychics and mediums use psychometry as a tool to connect with their clients, such as holding a piece of jewelry that the client has worn for years. They may also hold a photo or article of a loved one in Spirit to attune with the spirit person, and to obtain information about that spirit's life on Earth.
A psychometrist is someone who practices the art of psychometry, opening their senses and awareness to discover the life record of objects. A psychometrist can also be a medium who has the ability to feel the vibrational energies stored in a person or object, and can determine the history or present state of a person or object. Their soul communes/connects with the object that s/he is touching, and becomes very aware of the “emotional atmosphere” around it, picking up whatever information/knowledge is available.
No psychic or medium is 100% accurate all the time, regardless of what spiritual or psychic modality is being used. There will always be sources of error. Beware of those who claim to always be 100% accurate, and promise to “fix” everything for you! The following are some possible sources of error when using the gift of psychometry:
- Association : Objects being psychometrized may be misread due to the very real human problem of association, ie: a psychometrist may be given a ruby ring. She may feel a sense of sadness and confusion because a long-lost love gave her a similar ring in the past, and her memories and feelings may override genuine memory of the psychometrized ring, and her sad associations with the ring from her past. She may therefore misinterpret what she is receiving from the energies of the ring.
- Telepathy : There can be a possibility of telepathy between the owner of the object and the psychic-medium. Sometimes the owner is thinking so intently about certain information that the medium may telepathically pick up that information and feed it back.
- Misinterpretation : Psychometrists generally use clairvoyance, receive pictures or are given a symbol, so it is possible that they can misinterpret the psychic symbols or pictures given them. Sometimes they may be unable to tell the difference between a true symbolic impression and their own imagination.
How Psychometry Works :
- Psychometry is one of the best ways to begin one's spiritual unfoldment, and I personally began developing this gift when I first began “official” studies at my Spiritualist church. It came naturally and easily, because I was able to relax and just let it flow, with no need to impress anyone or be afraid of failure.
- We can observe our progress every time we work with an object or person, and slowly become more accurate and confident. We can observe ourselves as we attune with the object or person's energy. If we are able to clear our minds (through practicing focusing/meditation - a must in all spiritual unfoldment), we can “read” the person or object and offer what we have received/perceived.
- Every thought, spoken or unspoken, is indelibly registered upon an object, and can be picked up by the receiver. Psychometry proves the permanent energy of thought and consciousness. Good reason to watch our thoughts and attitudes!
- A high developed clairvoyant can sense the true life connected with the object s/he is linking with, discovering the authentic energies. Psychometry is sometimes described as “a form of clairvoyance induced by touch.”
- Not every psychometrist uses clairvoyance. Clairsentience or clear-feeling, sensing/knowing may be used. And, not every clairvoyant uses psychometry, but many times there is an overlapping of the energy used to help explain how it operates.
Possible Uses :
- Psychometry has been shown to accurately project into the future, even though it is generally thought to deal strictly with the past and present.
- It can offer invaluable help in the study of history and biography.
- It is an excellent foundation for spiritual unfoldment, because it allows those with the gift to consciously analyze the progress made, develop accuracy and confidence.
- Psychometry has been used in the field of archaeology (psychic archeology) with amazing results! Study the book “Psychic Archeology,” and particularly investigate how psychic archeology was used in uncovering many buildings that had been thought lost or never known to have existed in Glastonbury , England .
Developing your psychometric gift :
- Practice meditation, breathing techniques, prayer and contemplation daily. Find ways to relax the body that are right for you ~ perhaps Yoga, Tai Chi, etc.
- Make time daily to connect with Spirit, and learn to feel the presence of your Angel Guides and Spirit Teachers, and ask them to help you to relax, open, receive and unfold.
- Practice psychometry regularly - repeated efforts are necessary to cultivate this gift and all gifts of Spirit.
- There are a number of ways to cultivate your psychometric gift using: objects, letters or notes, with books, photos, people, thoughts and sensing. Discover new ways for yourself!
- Feel with all the senses of your soul to perceive the true vibration of people and objects, and see with your inner vision, opening up all your spiritual senses. I once used psychometry to choose an automobile, along with Spirit guidance, and made the right choice! Spirit gifts can be used every day in so many useful ways.
- Remember who you are , and who we all are...spiritual beings in physical bodies visiting Earth to uplift, encourage, love and serve each other, other beings on the plant and the Earth. Open to your Light and the Highest Reams!
- Don't focus on, or brag about, your developing powers or Siddhis (Sanskrit). These are just signposts along the way, and tools to allow us to grow, and most of all to feel our Oneness with Self, others, the God/Source. Do not compete with others. Don't offer “party tricks” at gatherings, for you sully the wondrous energies of Spirit, and your genuine unfoldment.
- Each of us has unique gifts . Be conscious of any competition, jealousy, etc., let those feelings and thoughts go. Working with Spirit is not a game or competition, or something to be trifled with. Always seek to unfold your Highest True Self. Develop the gifts that you came into the world with. There will always be people more or less advanced in any aspect of Earthly Life, including spiritual development. Focus on your development, and your higher purpose while of Earth.
- When working with an object and giving information to someone: Don't ask questions of the person - speak boldly and confidently. Go along with the flow of what's coming to you. Don't allow questions or interruptions from the person you're working with. When you've completed psychometrizing the person or object, then ask for feedback.
- Don't be concerned if you are wrong...simply begin again, and reattune. If one of your spiritual gifts is in the field of psychometry, your ability will continue to grow with practice.
- Reach out expansively, confidently . You may feel pain, anxiety, anger, etc. or feel happy, strong, uplifted, etc. as you attune with the object, person, etc. Mention whatever comes to you. These feelings may come in a flash or little by little, slowly or quickly. Offer what you're getting as well as you can, and then don't worry about the results. As will all offerings, be kind, discreet and discerning.
- Don't be discouraged if you don't succeed immediately. Trust what you get and give it. The impulses may be only a very slight feeling, a thought may just pop into your head or bubble up into your mind. Whatever it is and however it comes up, give it to the person you're working with. Patience, practice and perseverance!
- You may feel compelled to use figures of speech, something that only the other person would understand. You may be prompted to say things which you don't understand, which seem meaningless or foolish. Don't be concerned, or let that deter you from following your impressions. When you feel pulled, directed, prompted, encouraged, follow those feelings and offer what you get.
- When you're finished with the articles(s) or person, always clear the energy from your hands before going on to the next person or thing . Let go of all the “stuff” that came up from your mind, close the connection, and move on.
The following are some ways to begin to practice and gain some confidence. Relax and just let things flow. You have nothing to achieve. You are just observing, allowing and practicing. You may find that you are able to attune better with metal than rock, with photos vs. jewelry, etc. Find what works for you, then expand and develop more.
- Letters, notes, etc .: Take a letter (note, piece of paper with some information on it (from someone you don't know and without reading it). Hold it in your hands, place it upon your forehead and try to center your thoughts upon the writer and what's written on the paper. If you draw a blank after several minutes, put the piece of paper to your temple or back of your head; hold it in the left or right hand, or both if necessary, until you find a position that helps you “switch on” to the writer and the written material.
- Books : Simply open a book at random, lay your right hand on the page and try to get some idea what's on the page before you look at it...the words used, thoughts, etc.
- Photos: Hold a photo of someone you don't know, and notice if any thoughts come to you of their personality, character, health, business, etc. and ask for verification.
- Working with people : Take the person's hands in yours, and allow your Self to connect with them spiritually, mentally, physically. Tell them what you feel as you reach into their auric field. Always ask permission first, whatever psychic work you are involved in - never be invasive. Remember ethics!
- Thoughts: Ask someone to hold a question in their mind and then try to answer it.
- Sensing: Attempt to sense who is calling when the phone rings, and the purpose of a caller (phone or in person), on the Internet, etc. Clearly form a question in your mind such as “Why are you calling?” What have you come here for?” What favor are you asking, what do you need?, etc. Then notice if any thoughts, however slight, come and if they relate to reality.

We are all able to unfold our spiritual qualities, and are all born with a sixth sense. We must create an atmosphere that is conducive to
development. A high, positive vibration must be established both in classes and at home to bring about good communication between Earth and the Spirit Realms. Strive
daily, with clear intention, to keep your thoughts and attitude positive (even cheerful!) during each day. We will all have trials and tribulations in Life, but be aware
of how you may be feeding negative energy by your thoughts. Remember who you really are, a child of God, and connect each day with Spirit (and during the day, as needed),
asking for help to stay clear, calm, strong, confident, uplifted, even in the midst of difficult times. Be patient with yourself and others, set the intention to always be
evolving and growing spiritually, and live fully and joyfully this precious life you've been given. May God and your Angels bless and guide you perfectly as you walk the
Path of Light, awakening your True Spiritual Self and all that you have to offer to the world!
